How It Started

In November 1980, as an initiative of the Hurstville Ministers' Fraternal (now Association) and with seven initial supporting churches, 'The Council of Christian Education for Hurstville Boys High School' was established with the aim of coordinating the provision of Special Religious Education (SRE) and employing a Scripture Teacher at the School.

The first teacher was appointed in January 1981, and since then ten teachers have been employed over the past 35 years. Each teacher has brought their own distinctive gifts and personalities to the position.

In August 1999, the Constitution was changed to recognise the extension of teaching to include Sydney Technical High School and the name of the Council was changed to 'The Christian Education Board for Hurstville District High Schools'.

In 2001, the Georges River College was formed presenting new opportunities for SRE; and together with the Scripture Teachers from Penshurst Girls' and Peakhurst High Schools, the Hurstville Boys' teacher contributes to the lunch time Christian group at the Oatley Senior Campus of the College.
